CD Album Cover Ancillary Task

This is one of the ancillary tasks carried out by me. We all created album covers front, middle and back and magazine advertisements. Here is the front cover to Funnel's album i designed. I like the simplicity of it, but the photo we took captures the bands personality.
For magazine advertisements for bands i got inspiration from NME magazine, the sort of magazine we would want Funnel to be in. Throughout there is artists and bands being promoted be that for a gig or their album.

CD Front and Back Cover, Album Art and Magazine Advertisement (Pete Field)

Here is my input towards the ancillary task, the front cover, back cover and magazine advertisement.

The album by the band is self titled, Funnel. This album cover that I produced is loosely influenced by Oasis' Definitely Maybe album cover in the way that it shows all the band in a living room and the font I used is similiar to the one used by them. After realising psychedelic album art (that was my original influence) is very hard to produce using Indesign and Photoshop I opted for this simpler yet equally effective approach, with a simple handwritten font of the band/their album title.

I edited the photographs using Photoshop, by altering the brightness and contrast settings, levels and colour balance i was able to effectively edit the photographs.

The back cover of the CD displays the songs on the album, their record label and also the bar code for the CD. I chose this photograph for the back cover as it reflects the bands image and shows an everyday scene, in a way this was loosely inspired by The Streets' A Grand Don't Come For Free back cover of their CD, as theirs is of a fridge.

I am happy with this outcome and definitely feel these work as an effective final product for our ancillary task.

Above is the album art that will feature in the CD case, I went for a simple design using the classic Futura font for the word 'Funnel' and then used Indesign to add all the images together, then created a thin border to separate each one. I feel that a lot of artists and bands are using a style over substance approach these days when it comes to album art, and this simplistic technique that I have used in Indesign, I feel works equally as well.
